About the Teacher
Gret Price has been teaching since 2016, first as a woodwind instructor at Linganore High, where she just finished her third season, and then in one-on-one sessions later that year. She is the assistant director of the Frederick Youth Flute Choir under JennaMarie Warfield, where she gives lessons and guidance on alto and bass flute, conducts, and composes/arranges pieces. Gret is also the director of the Montgomery College Flute Ensemble. She has studied under Dr. Carolyn Oh for several years and is about to graduate with her Associate’s Degree in Classical Flute. She has had additional studies with Nan Raphael on piccolo. She is also an accomplished soloist, featured regularly in the MC Wind Ensemble, previously featured in the MC World Ensemble, and has been featured in masterclasses by Chris Norman and Nikolai Popov. She has also been known to perform on various ethnic flutes, her favorites of which are the fife and the penny whistle.
As a teacher, she strives to inspire students to not only love the flute, but to love themselves. She considers music a gift that teaches discipline, confidence, critical thinking, self-expression, and problem solving. She also encourages the science behind music, through her knowledge of acoustics and repair; a student who knows how their tool works has a strong advantage. To her, flute is the ultimate tool of expression in the ultimate craft.
